Expert Tip. The Octagon House is located three blocks from the hotel. This Federal-period mansion and museum, located at the corner of New York Avenue and 18th Street, was built by a friend of George Washington and is purported to be haunted. James Madison signed the Treaty of Ghent in the Octagon House's Treaty Room, which signified the end of the War of 1812.
